The flower displays and festivals in the summer of 2012 have been particularly impressive as the combination of wet and warmth seems to have encouraged some particularly beautiful blooms.

St Helier Parish Church in Jersey held a flower festival in July  as a part of the Fete de St Helier. Apart from celebrating the anniversary of St Helier, there were tributes to the Prince of Wales as the festival coincided with the Royal visit of Prince Charles and Camilla.  The 2012 Olympics were not forgotten either.  See Pictures

St Bartholomew's Church in Dinard was once again the venue for a flower festival. Themed as Un moment pour tout - A Time for Everything the beautiful displays were on view in the church from 13 to 15th July.  Many Channel Islanders - both ex-pats and visitors - were involved.  English Teas were served and a concert was held on the evening of Saturday 14th given by the Harmony Men from Jersey.  Read more

The Jersey Post Office had a flower display entitled Queue Gardens - see below

Queue Gardens in Jersey

The staff working in the mail sorting, parcel collection and PO box section at  the back of the Jersey Post Office in Broad Street decided to create a flower display at the Post Office in 2011.  Using both their own money and spare time they grew flowers from seed and the result was a flower display that won them an award in the Parish in Bloom competition.  The display was greatly appreciated by customers.

This year, 2012, Post Office management made a financial contribution to their efforts. and the display is even more stunning!  Just look at the pictures below.

The icon of St. Helier on display right is the work of Iconographer Karen Blampied and formed part of her 2011 spiritual pilgrimage to create icons for the Parish churches of Jersey.

Karen's work was the theme of the 2010 Flower Display at St Bartholomew's Church in Dinard.  Karen also created an icon of St. Bartholomew for the Church in 2011.  Karen's website is www.iconspirit.com

Floral Highlights from the Flower Festival at St Bartholomew's Church in Dinard, Brittany, France

St Bartholomew's is an English speaking Anglican church located on a small hill at the end of road running along the sea front of the Plage de l'Ecluse in Dinard - the road where the casino and Palais des Arts are situated. The church welcomes visitors and holds services on Sundays and Thursdays.  Find out more about the church from their website www.stbarts-dinard.org.uk

The flower festival was once again organised by Corrie Stein who lived in Jersey for many years serving the island as Senator and Deputy, Ex Jersey Resident Victor Pomfrit and many other helpers.

The theme of the of the festival was taken from Ecclesiastes 3 v1 – 15 – "A Time for Everything‟. All floral arrangements were based on "A Time for . . .‟  An arrangement titled "A Time to Worship" was in the entrance welcoming the visitor into the church to see other arrangements such as "A Time to be Baptised‟; A Time to Sing‟; "A Time to Heal‟; "A Time to Plant‟; "A Time to Listen‟; "A Time to Rejoice‟ and a "Time to Remember‟. The windows and pillars were all on the theme "A Time to Love‟ while the chancel was dedicated to the theme "A Time to Pray which included a stunning arrangement on the main altar.
